Specialist Studies in Music 1

This course explores the principles and practices of teaching and learning Stage 4 Music in secondary schools. Students will consider the role and value of music in contemporary society and the broader school curriculum. Students will explore lesson planning and programming for Stage 4 Music curriculum; and a range of strategies, technologies and resources for teaching and assessing Music at the secondary school level.

  • Essays / Written Assignments - Minor Assignment = 30%: 1,500 words or equivalent; Consisting of an essay on pedagogical or curriculum issues related to Music education.
  • Projects - Major Assignment = 70%: 3,500 words or equivalent; Consisting of planning, programming, assessment, and resource building tasks linked to the requirements of the NSW Stage 4 Music Curriculum. This assignment will consist of multiple parts to the value indicated above.
