This is an advanced course with flexible goals and assessments. Consent of the Course Coordinator is required prior to enrolling. As a prerequisite, students should have completed at least two postgraduate courses in special education (sensory disability), or have previously completed a postgraduate award. The course is intended for students interested in studying a specialised topic with the close direction of a Renwick Centre faculty member. RIDBC Renwick Centre administers this course. Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of:

  1. issues, research literature and/or practical initiatives in a specific area of education for students with sensory disability;
  2. skill in undertaking and reporting reviews of the literature and in applying research results to educational practice with students with sensory disability;
  3. critical thinking.

Course content includes:

  1. specialised topics;
  2. examination of professional literature;
  3. identification and differential application of contemporary theory on specified topic with relevance to policy and/or practice.

Assumed Knowledge The subjects are designed as advanced coursework units at the 600 level for those students whose programs permit the option of elective studies. Students intending to enrol should have completed at least two introductory postgraduate coursework subjects in special education or have previously completed a postgraduate award in special education at this or another university.

  • Essays / Written Assignments - Ideology and literature review (an alternative assessment is possible in consultation with the course coordinator)
  • Projects - Essay (an alternative assessment is possible in consultaiton with the course coordinator.)
