English Language Proficiency
University of Newcastle coursework is conducted in English, so you’ll need to be proficient in the language. If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency through completion of ONE of the below:
- The successful completion - within five (5) years of the application for study at the University of Newcastle of an approved Australian or overseas qualification as detailed in the English Proficiency Policy OR,
- The successful completion - within two (2) years of the following tests:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): A score of 550 with a TWE (Test of Written English) of 4.5 in the paper-based test OR a score of 213 with a 4.5 Essay Rating in the computer-based test OR an internet test overall score of 93 with no subtest score less than 21.
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System): A minimum score of 6.5, with no sub-test score less than 6.0.
