Description

This program is designed for students with little or no background in the discipline or those wishing to upgrade their existing knowledge in the field. No prior knowledge is assumed. The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is designed to provide an introduction to this discipline.

Study a Language

All domestic students can now enrol in an undergraduate Diploma in Languages alongside their main degree program. This diploma will enhance proficiency in another language or languages, and will increase international career opportunities. Subject to course availability, this additional program will generally add an extra year to studies, and students will graduate with a Diploma in Languages as well as their other degree. Please note that all language courses are held on campus (face to face) at Callaghan.

International students cannot enrol concurrently in the Diploma in Languages alongside their primary program unless they can complete both programs within the duration of their primary program CoE. For more information please contact the ESOS Student Compliance Unit ESOS@newcastle.edu.au.

Admission Requirements

Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management (40 units) will be available for applicants who have: * 3 year Bachelors Degree not in the discipline; or * 3 year Diploma in the discipline; or * 3 year Diploma not in the discipline + 1 year relevant business experience; or * 2 year Diploma in the discipline + 2 years relevant business experience; or * 2 year Diploma not in the discipline + 3 years relevant business experience; or * At least 5 years business experience.

Students will be required to successfully complete a “Business Academic Skills Program” (BASP) which will be of 6 weeks duration. The BASP will be non-fee based and can be completed concurrently with courses in the Graduate Certificate.

Only after the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate and the academic skills program will students be eligible to formally enrol in the Masters Program. They will, however, receive 40 units credit by virtue of the studies they will have already completed. Therefore they will be required to do an additional 80 units to complete their Masters Degree. International applicants must also satisfy the University’s English Language Requirements.

International Students

International students will be supported by the University and the Newcastle Business School’s current support mechanisms. There will be a requirement for a minimum 6.5 IELTS result or equivalent.

Special Needs

Domestic students with a disability or chronic illness will have their needs met by the NBS in liaison with the Student Support Unit.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Higher Education Centre, Umulliko.

Students from rural and isolated areas and those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds will e supported through existing University support structures.

Requirements and Structure

The Newcastle Business Schools runs courses on a trimester system, i.e. three terms per year. Students may commence studies in January, May or September.

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management requires 40 units, gained through the completion of four core courses each worth 10 units.

Students should check the assumed knowledge requirements for any course prior to enrolling.
