Master of Theology pre-2014 Program Information

Description

The Master of Theology (Program code 12212) will be available to continuing students only from 2015. The increasing demand for highly qualified professionally competent leaders, managers and educators has become an important feature of modern professions worldwide. The Master of Theology is a postgraduate program that offers the opportunity for theological graduates, or graduates in cognate disciplines, to expand their learning, explore theological disciplines in a depth they had been unable to achieve in their first theological degree, and better equip them with the higher learning skills they had begun to develop through their undergraduate studies. The program provides graduates with training and experience (according to personal or professional development needs) by developing expertise in the fast moving areas of theological studies, which investigate key aspects of ancient and global religious traditions.

Students in the Master of Theology may take a generic program or specialise in one of the following areas:

  • Spirituality
  • Liturgical Studies
  • Religious Education
  • Mission and Culture
  • Pastoral Ministry.

Why study with us?

This unique degree will help you develop and expand your skills and knowledge in theologically advanced areas.  The Master of Theology at the University of Newcastle is a cutting edge, intellectually rigorous and highly relevant degree program for training in theological reasoning and the sophisticated reading of complex texts.  With a higher level degree, undertake with supervision from theological specialists, this is an opportunity to explore and develop multiple skills in a range of theological disciplines.

Career Opportunities

As a liberal arts degree the Master of Theology program allows students to prepare for a wide range of careers including teaching, social work, the caring professions, journalism and the media and various forms of Christian ministry.

Study a Language

All domestic students can now enrol in an undergraduate Diploma in Languages alongside their main degree program. This diploma will enhance proficiency in another language or languages, and will increase international career opportunities. Subject to course availability, this additional program will generally add an extra year to studies, and students will graduate with a Diploma in Languages as well as their other degree. Please note that all language courses are held on campus (face to face) at Callaghan.

International students cannot enrol concurrently in the Diploma in Languages alongside their primary program unless they can complete both programs within the duration of their primary program CoE. For more information please contact the ESOS Student Compliance Unit ESOS@newcastle.edu.au.
