The scope of the world’s engineering challenges continues to evolve. Today we are faced with many new and significant global and local challenges including climate change which has resulted in a move towards clean energy and the need to develop sustainable practices in the resources area. The University of Newcastle has combined two relevant disciplines to create the Master of Engineering Science. Designed to generate a cohort of specialised engineers, graduates will be provided with the skills and knowledge to tackle modern engineering challenges.
Offering a diverse range of coursework, the program has been designed to enable you to tailor the program to meet your specific needs. Whether you prefer to focus your studies on management, a specific engineering project or the technical areas of mineral processing or energy, the program's predefined specialisations will cater to your interests.
Overall, the University of Newcastle’s Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science will provide you with the right combination of theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on experience to help move you forward in your career to pursue interesting and challenging engineering projects.

Do you like to think outside the square to uncover new and innovative ways to improve our carbon footprint, promote sustainable resource development and/or improve infrastructure for our expanding populations?
If you have a degree in engineering or science and more specifically chemistry, chemical, mechanical or civil engineering, the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science offers you the opportunity to extend your knowledge and skills, particularly relevant to the energy and resources sector, and research and development.
You will be provided the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and practical skills, defined by your chosen specialisation. You will be required to complete 40 units of study, 30 units of which are comprised of your chosen specialisation, allowing you to establish essential theoretical foundations in key areas to better prepare you for greater career opportunities in your chosen field.
To find out more about what you will study, visit the 'Study' tab.
The Master of Engineering Science it structured to offer you a selection of specialisations in technical, managerial and project related areas, depending on your career objectives.
You will study ‘innovation and commercialisation’ which is critical to the professional development of any engineer wanting to take on managerial/senior positions. This option will encourage you to challenge the development of existing products and services, trying to find innovative ways to improve them whist ensuring they are economically and commercially viable.
You can select two of the following specialisations* designed to provide you with a well-rounded and practical education, relevant to your career. The specialisations are:

* You are unable to combine the Mineral Processing and Energy specialisations.
As we continue to discover a world full of new local and global issues including climate change and clean energy, we look to educate a new cohort of engineering science specialists with the skills and knowledge to approach these emerging challenges.
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Science from the University of Newcastle will be prepared to pursue careers in either technical or managerial capacities. The technical drivers of this program are heavily focused on the energy and resources sectors, providing employment opportunities into these growth areas. The engineering project specialisation will prepare individuals looking to develop a career in research and development or the innovation and commercialisation fields.
