Establishing a career in the highly competitive and potentially lucrative property industry requires tenacity and a business savvy approach. The University of Newcastle’s industry focused Master of Property offered will prepare you to astutely analyse market trends and apply recognised theories and principles to help maximise your career potential in the property field.

From valuing, developing, leasing, financing and managing, the property industry can be thoroughly rewarding with many career paths on offer. By completing a Masters in Property, you are not only able to broaden your knowledge of the issues and influences surrounding the property industry, you are eligible to apply for an associate membership of the Australian Property Institute (API) which represents over 8,500 property professionals across Australia and overseas. Focused on providing professional and technical standards for the industry and its members, the API represents commercial and plant and machinery valuers, property advisers, property analysts and fund managers, property lawyers, property researchers and academics.

Undertaken over one year, part-time, the program is open to students who have already completed undergraduate studies in property, building, quantity surveying, construction management, construction economics or a related discipline including business, finance or commerce. You are also required to have a minimum of two years relevant work experience in a property related field.

Study

The Master of Property at the University of Newcastle has been designed to develop highly relevant skills and knowledge to assist you to obtain success in the property industry. To achieve this, the program is entirely prescribed, with eight core courses covering sustainable development, property economics, finance, property and facilities management, through to property law, planning legislation, investment and evaluation, advanced and statutory valuation, and property market analysis.

The program will see you emerge with a well-rounded understanding of the market, an ability to identify and analyse trends and understand and apply the legislative framework which governs the industry.

At the end of your studies, you will have a thorough understanding of the property market and will be able to apply this knowledge in a wide range of property-based careers.
