This course prepares students to enter the profession of architecture. Through the consideration of architectural practice as a research-based enquiry, the student initiates an elective architectural project and develops its brief, conceptual basis and schematic resolution with regard to a planning regulatory framework.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify research associated with the elective project within architectural practice
  2. Establish a performance brief and client for the elective project
  3. Strategically and conceptually investigate the relationship the project has with the site and the broader environment
  4. Develop a schematic proposal incorporating architecture as research
  5. Communicate how the schematic proposal meets the requirements of the National Construction Code of Australia (NCCA)
  • The elective architectural project as a consideration of architectural practice
  • Establishing the brief for a complex architectural project
  • Conceptual design as an outcome of architectural research
  • Architectural schematic proposal
  • Relationship of the elective architectural project within the regulatory framework of the National Construction Code of Australia
