Projects in BioInnovation and Design Part A
Projects in BioInnovation and Design Part A is the first part of a multi-term sequence course offered over two semesters. Groups of students (3-5 per group) from different disciplines will work together on either an industry-initiated, or university-initiated project with an industry application, with a view to the development of a product with commercial potential. Student teams will be supervised by an inter-disciplinary tam of academics and industry stakeholders.

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
The course will include the introductory elements of bioinnovation and entrepreneurship in the medical sciences including how to undertake a needs analysis for a specific technological solution, how to determine the size of need for that specific solution and its potential for financial return. In Part A, students will be also be involved in the early development and testing of a prototype technological solution. Regular mentoring by a team of supervisors will guide this process, together with the learnings from a seminar series delivered by invited speakers with entrepreneurial/industry/academic experience.
|Multi-Term Sequence||This course is part of a multi-term sequence. Both Part A and Part B must be completed to meet the requirements of the sequence. Part A and Part B must be completed in consecutive terms. Students must complete Part A before completing Part B. Students must complete the sequence within a twelve month period. If students complete Part A but are unable to complete Part B within the timeframe, they must re-enrol in Part A.|
|Assumed Knowledge||Prior basic knowledge or relevant work experience in medicine, natural sciences, engineering or design/technology.|
