Intermediate Curriculum Design

The course will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to design and implement curriculum practices at an intermediate level (that of a practicing educator).

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate an understanding of current knowledge about the different curriculum theories and their design models;
  2. Articulate an understanding of current knowledge about different curriculum design principles;
  3. Demonstrate the capacity to design curriculum units of differing models;
  4. Analyse and critique the links between assessment, curriculum and pedagogy;
  5. Design a curriculum unit for use in a real institutional curricular context.
Content

This course introduces students to:

  1. Current state of the field knowledge about curriculum theories and models for curricular design;
  2. Current state of the field knowledge about design principles;
  3. Design implications of different models of curriculum;
  4. An understanding of curriculum as one of the message systems of learning, in relation to assessment and pedagogy;
  5. Design considerations of curriculum within a larger institutional context.
