Politics and Education
The course will ask students to consider and engage critically with identified continuities and changes associated with contemporary policy movements in the field of education. Both national and international movements will be examined. The course will draw students’ focus to aspects of political debates about and rhetorical construction of educational issues both past and present. Students will investigate the impact of contemporary policy on the construction of teachers and students, the practices of educational and other institutions, wider social trends, and the purpose of education itself.
