Second Language Teaching and Learning in Australian Schools
This course provides students with the opportunity to implement second language teaching skills and knowledge in two site-based teaching settings (typically the University’s Confucius Institute and local schools). It develops students’ understanding of the impact of Australian Government’s language policies on the teaching and learning of second languages in Australian schools. Australia is the only English-speaking country that has consistent language policies to promote languages other than English, in particular, Asian languages including Chinese as a second language. It also aims to develop students’ understanding of the Australian school systems in local, national and global educational contexts in the contemporary age of innovation.
