Foundations of Business Research

20 Units

The course introduces students to research in the social sciences by providing an overview of the key principles and concepts used in research and it facilitates students in defining and refining their research topic in preparation for the subsequent courses in the program. Additionally the course provides practical skills required for successful research organisation and writing.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify ethical issues in research
  2. Apply library research and writing skills in the preparation and presentation of assignments.
  3. Analyse research designs in the context of research paradigms
  4. Evaluate scholarly literature
  5. Synthesise arguments to develop a well justified research question

  • Written Assignment: Short written critiques posted online and peer reviews.
  • Written Assignment: Critical comparison of journal articles
  • Written Assignment: Development of a research question justified by literature.
