Information Technology Research Methods

Students will develop an advanced understanding of methodological issues applied within the context of information technology.

The course develops the student’s capability to think independently and critically whilst increasing competency in addressing research questions, applying research methods, and selecting and presenting findings from theoretical or empirical research in a scholarly manner.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Develop an advanced understanding of the methodological issues for their chosen research area.
  2. Learn how to analyse recent developments in theory and its application in information technology.
  3. Apply research in information technology to a chosen field of study.
  4. Gain experience in pursuing an extended research project and in its documentation.
  5. Gain an understanding of the management of risks related to undertaking a research project.

Students will;

  1. Apply appropriate methodologies applicable to the area of chosen research
  2. Perform an in-depth analysis and critique of recent developments in theory and practice in applied information technology
  3. Perform extensive research that will ultimately lead to a major project or dissertation.
