Infant, Child, Adolescent and Family Development

This course provides the theoretical foundations pertaining to the growth and development of infants, children and adolescents. These foundations will be applied to health assessment and the health needs of these clients within the context of the family. The course will focus on the individuality of the infant, child and adolescent using a chronological approach

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge in identifying the major developmental life tasks/challenges of the infant, child and adolescent within the family context (however that is configured) at various stages of development
  2. Contextualise care for infant children and young people in relation to the family environment, including approaches to parenting and family assessment strategies
  3. Identify strategies for the promotion and optimal development of infants, children and young people
