Psychological Assessment

10 Units

This course provides students with the opportunity to explore and analyse the theoretical underpinnings and practical approaches to measuring psychological constructs. The course explores issues of validity and reliability, cultural and ethical considerations, and linguistic factors. Students acquire practical skills in administration, scoring, interpretation and reporting of various psychological tests.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and understand the relevant aspects of psychological test construction.
  2. Critically appraise psychological tests and evaluate the theories that underpin them.
  3. Show awareness of social, cultural and ethical issues in regard to psychological testing.
  4. Appropriately interpret and report the results of a psychological assessments via a written report.
  • Identification and understanding of psychological test development
  • Critical appraisal of theories that underpin psychological tests
  • Selection and administration of appropriate psychological test
  • Interpretation of assessment results and report writing
  • Ethical issues that arise when conducting psychological assessments and reporting results 
Assumed Knowledge It is assumed that students will have completed a four-year program in Psychology which has been accredited by the Australian Psychological Society.
