What Will You Study

The Graduate Certificate in Property at the University of Newcastle has been designed to develop highly relevant skills and knowledge to assist you to succeed in the property industry. To achieve this, the program offers two core courses and select two directed courses from a number courses available online. The two core courses are:

  • Sustainable Development
  • Property and Facilities Management

The study components serve to facilitate both your professional and personal growth. As a graduate you will be equipped with a broad knowledge and understanding of property as an asset class within national and international markets and with the skills necessary to research, analyse and advise on decisions relating to the property development and property management.

Citizenship and Visa Details

Applicants who were born overseas and are now residing in Australia will need to provide details of their citizenship, residency and visa details.

Educational Qualifications

If you are applying for admission on the basis of studies completed at an institution other than the University of Newcastle, you will need to provide certified copies of official transcripts.

For each qualification that you list on your application, you must provide a certified copy of your transcript.

Overseas educational qualifications will be assessed for equivalence according to standards provided by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition.

Evidence of English Proficiency

All applicants, whether domestic or international, for admission to any University of Newcastle program must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum requirements for admission. Applicants should review the University of Newcastle English Proficiency Policy

Typically, applicants will provide certified copies of one of the following documents:

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) results.
  • Evidence of previous studies undertaken overseas in an English Speaking country

Description

The program provides graduates from building, property, business and finance backgrounds with an international perspective of property portfolio management and property development and develops the relevant specialist skills to operate effectively within property portfolio management, property development and facilities management environments.

Admission Requirements

AQF Level 7 Cognate for the purposes of entry into this program will be determined by a Bachelor Degree in the study areas, listed below.

AQF Level 6 Cognate and five years’ experience for the purposes of entry into this program will be determined by an Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in the study areas, listed below. Study Areas:

Land Economics/ Real Estate/ Property/ Valuation/ Architecture/ Building/ Construction Management/ Surveying/ Quantity Surveying/ Engineering in Civil/ Structure/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Environment/ Town Planning/ Urban Planning/ Commerce/ Economics/ Finance/ Business/ Marketing/ Business Administration/ Law.

Relevant work Experience will be assessed from the information provided below:

  • Applicant statement outlining the relevant work experience that applies to the program learning outcomes. Applicants must demonstrate experience against all learning outcomes.

Applicants who do not speak English as a first language must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. Requirements and Structure

The Graduate Certificate of Property is a 40 unit program requiring the completion of 20 units of core courses and 20 units of directed courses, of which all students are required to complete.

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Property may apply undertake further studies in a Master of Property.

Students entering the program come from a diverse range of backgrounds and use the knowledge and skills gained in this postgraduate qualification to enhance their career development in a chosen field. The program is designed to equip students with a wide range of practical skills and specialist knowledge for different property-based careers. The study components serve to facilitate both students professional and personal growth. Graduates will be equipped with a broad knowledge and understanding of property as an asset class within national and international markets and with the skills necessary to research, analyse and advise on decisions relating to the acquisition, administration, management, disposal, development and financing of property assets. At the University of Newcastle, we recognise that many of our students are in highly demanding employment. Flexible study options are therefore of vital importance. In response we have tailored this program for delivery on a part-time basis in online distance learning mode.

Special Needs

Students with a disability who require reasonable adjustments to undertake their program should contact the Disability Support Service before semester or early in the semester. Some adjustments need up to 4 weeks lead time to organise, so it is imperative that early contact is made. The Disability Support Service and relevant Faculty and School officers will work together to ensure reasonable adjustments are provided in a timely manner.

Study a Language

All domestic students can now enrol in an undergraduate Diploma in Languages alongside their main degree program. This diploma will enhance proficiency in another language or languages, and will increase international career opportunities. Subject to course availability, this additional program will generally add an extra year to studies, and students will graduate with a Diploma in Languages as well as their other degree. Please note that all language courses are held on campus (face to face) at Callaghan.

International students cannot enrol concurrently in the Diploma in Languages alongside their primary program unless they can complete both programs within the duration of their primary program CoE. For more information please contact the ESOS Student Compliance Unit ESOS@newcastle.edu.au.
